MS Releases Content Management Server 2001
8/1/2001 10:39:53 AM

Microsoft today announced the general availability of the enterprise, evaluation and developer editions of Microsoft Content Management Server 2001, a Web content management system and the latest addition to the Microsoft .NET Enterprise Server family.

Content Management Server 2001 enables users to create, deploy and manage Internet, intranet and extranet Web sites. Features of the system include:

  • In-context authoring templates so that users do not have to leave the web site to contribute content
  • Real-time content updates, which allow content contributors to publish content directly onto development, staging or live production Web servers
  • Revision tracking and page archiving
  • Content scheduling
  • Dynamic page assembly, which allows content objects and templates to be assembled as pages are requested from the Web server
  • Presentation templates
  • Out-of-the-box integrations with Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Commerce Server 2000, and FrontPage 2000.
  • Dynamic template switching so that page layouts can be changed in real time
  • UNICODE support, which ensures that sites can be built in any of the world's major languages supported by UNICODE, and support for multiple languages within a single Web site.

The full-featured licensed version of Content Management Server 2001 is available for a suggested retail price of $39,901 (U.S.) per CPU. In North America, those interested in Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 should call 1-888-304-2222. Internationally, inquiries can be made via local Microsoft subsidiaries.

A full-featured 120-day enterprise version of Content Management Server 2001 is available for download from http://www.microsoft.com/cmserver/evaluation/trial.htm.

The developer edition of Content Management Server is available to MSDN subscribers at http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/resources/subdwnld.asp. The developer edition will ship with MSDN Universal in October 2001.
