Anyone know what the connection string should look like to connect to a database without using a DSN? Or is this possible with ADO?

Here is how to do it in both Access and SQL Server:
Access
set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Conn.Open "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=c:\InetPub\wwwroot\database\guestbook.mdb"
SQL Server 6.5
set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Conn.Open "driver=SQL Server;server=yourServerName;uid=someUID;pwd=somePWD;database=someDatabase;"
