Q: I have a site that uses forms-based non-anonymous membership authentication. When trying to create a search catalog of type crawl, the catalog never builds due to being redirected to the 'formslogin' page. I've entered what i think are appropriate accounts for admin access account: (NT admin using domain\Admin +passwd) content access account (I've used an SSAdministrator account, which is not an NT account, so I didn't use the DOMAIN qualifier.) It never told me my password was incorrect, it just seems that search can't authenticate using forms-based authentication. A: This is true. Search cannot crawl a site that is protected by forms-based
authentication. A workaround that is fairly easy is to create another web
site on the server that points to the same data and then use site mapping to
make sure the results the user sees require them to go through the normal
web site. - Donovan Smith |
